I'll be honest and say that this is one of the only pieces I looked at and thought "I'm not sure I want to paint this because it's in such great condition". I even went as far as telling it's owner that we shouldn't paint it...but she wanted it black on the outside and a fresh coat of white on the inside.
Before
And I'm glad I listened to her!
After
She's got a new look for the new year! Updated and fresh!
It looks really great! I love the black, but I can see how it would be hard to paint over the wood....I always have a hard time with that too. XO Cindy
It's so interesting to see how the black makes the piece look more modern even though it's not. The paint job is impeccable, too. I would love to have seen a different center color -- something eccentric like the salmon color you see with black in Scandinavian furniture -- but of course, most would want white or gray and it was for a client. Great job. Happy New Year. Jane
I would have opted for no paint...beautifully finished wood grain is my favorite...but what the owner wants, the owner should get. You did a superb job! Arrived via TCB...cheers!
What a fantastic piece!! I often neglect black when thinking paint colors for pieces...this is a reminder not to!! Such a classic, timeless look that would fit into a variety of interior styles. Well done!
Hi, your paint job is absolutely beautiful and just the look I want for a piece in my bedroom. Would you share how you got that matte look? Thanks so much!
This turned out so pretty. I have something similar and have been thinking about painting the inside white and the outside black. It looks fabulous. Wonderful job.
I have not painted a lot of pieces black, but this make-over is giving the the bug to find something that needs a black and white dress. Looks very classy!
Um, YEAH, I'm so glad you listened to her! It looks perfect. And that white paint on the inside is just the right pop! I've debated painting something in my house black...but I don't have anything else that is black....maybe it would still look good?
Wow! Who'da thunk plain black paint would make that look super expensive! It's absolutely gorgeous. I'd love it if you shared this at my Saturday Splendour party :) Beautiful work Allison.
Allison! The paint looks great. I either have the exact same piece or something very similar that I have had the same contemplation about. It's not in bad shape, but a little paint might just make it pop. She's in storage now though so that's a project that will have to wait. A few blog friends and I introduced a new challenge idea Monday and it would be so fun if you want to join. What a beautiful piece. I have a similar piece I have been at the same crossroads with. I think I'm going to paint it now. And then I think I will love it and have the prefect place for it.
