Just Add Legs: Empire Style Buffet

Oh how I loved this piece the minute I saw it. For $10, I couldn't pass it up even though it had some height challenges. Picture this without legs...it came up to my mid thigh.

It also came with one side missing trim on the bottom and try as I might, I couldn't find a similar piece. So my father-in-law went to a local lumber yard and found something that would work well. He cut the pieces so that I could attach them with brads and glue.

I added 9" legs from Home Depot. Strangely enough, this piece already had the leg plate attachments, so at one point, this had legs original legs.

I know I do two toned pieces a lot. Here's why: when there is actually something good left on these old pieces that have been mistreated, I want to preserve what is there. There are not many companies that make furniture like they use to.

So here's my latest two-tone piece:

Now it comes up to my waist...perfect buffet height!

Good job and good choice on the legs, looks like they were meant to be there.

I really like your two-toned pieces. In particular, when you just restore the top. I also always like how you distress. No leopard skin patches on your work! I think you do a beautiful job. This is a really gorgeous piece -- then and now.
