Before:
I primed this with Kilz gray primer and then did 7 layers of white wash...I think it was 7...I lost count. But white washing is fun, so I didn't mind. I then used Fiddes wax in stripped pine over the whole thing...working in small sections at a time. Several bloggers have told me that dark wax is more difficult to use and they don't like how it looks splotchy. I used to have that problem too, until Shayne told me a secret. After waxing the entire piece, use extra fine steel wool to blend the wax. It is seriously like magic!!
After:
See how nicely the wax blends and makes the piece look aged?
And one more...without accessories
Enjoy your long weekend!!

ReplyDeletebeautiful! i love the scalloping at the bottom!
ReplyDeletevery nice!!
ReplyDeletegreat transformation, good job. So many people would have just thrown out a piece of furniture because it was outdated. Love the idea of recycle, repurpose a piece and make it new again.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, I love it! I have never seen a piece like this either. You always do such great work.

ReplyDeleteOoohhh, that is yummy. love the color you used. I really prefer pieces that aren't like everybody elses and that one is a keeper. You could even, at some point, put it on top of another piece as deep as the bottom of it. Good thing I don't live by you or I'd be tempted to try to talk you out of it. You did a great job with the transformation. good eye.
ReplyDeletePerfect color!

That before and after is just incredible. Here is the PERFECT example of NOT "focusing" too much on what the piece looks like before. Just go for it.
