I ran into these nesting tables at a sale of a woman who used to have an occasional shop. Her prices were great and so was her loot. I was there for 2+ hours.
They have skinny little french legs and they slide under one another so that you can pick up the largest one and the other 2 are attached. Swoon! But...someone had taken a paintbrush to these. There were brush strokes all over the legs. Gold paint peeling from underneath the white. But I refinished them without stripping.
First, I dry brushed white over it all until I couldn't see brush strokes. Then I distressed a bit to have touches of gold peeking through. And then I used my magical Fiddes wax in Jacobean all over to make them look really aged out.
Top table (with leather inlay)
Middle table
And smallest table detail...crusty goodness
And a close up of my roses because they don't last very long!
Almost Friday!

you really worked some magic on those! :) sounds like they were not the most fun set to work on, but you made it easy... and they were worth it!

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing at Shabbilicious Friday.
ReplyDeleteSoooo, can you help me out??? I bought some wax because I keep seeing people blogging about using it....but Im not seeing the point of using it. Am I doing something wrong?? Is there a secret about the wax? I read somewhere that if you use a brillo pad after you spread it on, that it really helps but honestly, I saw NO difference in my piece :( Im using Minwax Paste Finishing Wax...I saw either you or someone else blog specifically about that brand (just mentioned that that's the product that was used.) Am I using the wrong brand? It's all that Home depot had. HELP Pleeeeease!! And THANK YOU! You are SUCH an inspiration! YOUR blog inspired me to jump out there and go for my dream. You are SOO talented! THANK YOU!!

ReplyDeleteI tried to email you but it's a no reply address, so I'm hoping you check back here.
I have only tried Minwax Paste wax twice and I haven't had a great experience with it. First, you are not noticing a difference because it's clear...it's only a protective coat. The wax I used on this table set is tinted dark. Try Fiddes wax in rugger brown...it's not quite as dark as the one I used but still has a nice tone. It's also much softer than the Minwax, so it's easier to work with.
I THINK I fixed it to where you can reply but I'm not positive. lol. I'm SO new at this! Cant wait to get my blog up and running so you can see it though! I REALLY do appreciate you taking the time to answer and to share all of your projects! Today I'm setting out to find the wax. Oh I PRAY I can find it! I'm going to be devastated if I have to order it! I havent been having the best of luck...last night while painting my first big piece of furniture, I spilled my quart of paint! :-( Please oh please God let me find Fiddes wax today! Lol!
ReplyDeleteOh and in case I didnt fix the email problem, hit me up at littlekbopeep@yahoo.com. But of course I WILL be stalking, I mean reading your blog! 0;->
