The Vinegar Treated Table

I have no catchy titles today, so I'm just naming this post what I've been calling it when I send Shayne updates on it: The vinegar table. And I have no "before" picture either...so sorry!

Back in November of last year, I told you about how to age wood quickly using steel wool and vinegar. You can see that project and tutorial here. The mixture actually creates a type of stain that makes wood look really old and weathered.

After stripping the top of this table using Citrustrip, I put three coats of the steel wool and vinegar mix on, sanding in between with a fine sanding pad. That takes care of any inconsistencies that look like water marks after using the vinegar.

I then painted the bottom with white, distressed and glazed with Minwax Jacobean. I usually use dark walnut, but I am LOVING this as glaze!

Have a great weekend!

  1. Hey Allison....I've been wanting to try the glazing w/ stain. This looks great! I find an time I glaze a white piece it always comes off looking dirty. Notice I never paint in white...will have to give this a try.

  10. There are many ways to cure damaged furniture. If you are just resourceful, there are many household items that can be used, like vinegar.

However, I wrote an article about Six Secrets to Remove Ugly Water Rings on Your Wooden Furniture.
