Farmhouse Dresser: Before and After

Just a quick before and after today. My heart is still so heavy and my mind is with the families from Sandy Hook. I am still trying to figure out how I, as an individual, can help. I don't ever remember feeling this helpless.

I found this dresser at the new Goodwill down the road. I had been eyeing it for 2 weeks, but $70 was too much for me. But when I headed there risked my life driving to Goodwill in a nasty snow storm 2 weeks later, it was marked down to $20! Score!

A dresser like this should NEVER have hardware like this people. Bright gold pulls. They are blinding.

The wood was in great condition and very pretty, so I just waxed it with dark wax, painted and waxed the frame and added new hardware.

Can I NOT learn to take a level picture? Goodness.

Sorry about the lack of staging...my heart just isn't totally in it right now. Hug your babies and enjoy the season. Thanks for being with me this year.

  2. Bless your heart. It's hard to get over or put aside the heart breaking facts of such an atrocity. How in the world can something like that happen to innocent children? Lets hope/pray now something will be done about the use and availability of assault rifles. What on earth was that young man's Mother thinking of when she bought one.
Also the fact of people not keeping guns out of reach of small and bigger children. They must take more responsibility.
You did a great job on the dresser, like that you kept it relatively simple, not to change character of a nice simple piece. Great bargain at $20 also. Lucky you. Our Goodwill in Grand Junction, CO is very greedy in pricing almost everything. Think only items decent prices are clothing.
Merry Christmas to you and yours.

  3. I love the combination of paint and natural wood - really pretty! ... And I agree, the sadness is overwhelming!

  4. This is just beautiful! I love the contrast, and the original $20 price tag was a bargain.

  5. WHAT?!? $20 at Goodwill? Not fair! I wish I had a better Goodwill where I live. They have decent furniture, but it all has sold tags on it EVERY time I go in there! It's not even worth looking at anymore. Anyway...I love your transformation! I love the contrast of the stained wood with the painted body...one of my favorite looks!
