I was brought these chairs and the caning had been ripped out. I thought I'd ask my Father in Law if he could make seats that would work. Of course he could...he's a superhero when it comes to fixing things.
I then painted them in a DIY chalk paint, heavily distressed them and sealed with Antique Brown wax from Fiddes. They are super sturdy and ready for their new home!
The after would be far more dramatic if I'd had a before picture, but I hope they are fun to look at anyway :)

Oh yes those are super cute. I have hesitated on chairs when it is rush seating or anything not solid wood or fabric.

Those chairs have the cutest little shape and they are darling in blue! Great save!
ReplyDeleteYour chairs are adorable, very different in style. How old are they? Love the style and lines of them, the blue is great. Love how your re-did them, bravo.
ReplyDeleteYou can buy sheets of caning to replace a caned seat. We found a great chair at a swap meet years ago and hubs put the new caning in and the stuff that goes around the edge of caning. Still have that chair and it's been many years since he redid it. We paid $10 for it and we were offered $200 for it. Thinking of that chair, when (if) spring gets here I'm going to get that chair out to paint it. Want to try home made chalk paint on it.
We live west of Grand Junction, CO., it's been alot colder here than it is in Chicago. Lots of snow and weeks of below 20's during the day. Today it got up to about 25 out where we live. Love your rug, colors are gorgeous.
so pretty! i adore the shape of these chairs! and i feel the same way about painting them, but they usually end up worth it. :)
ReplyDeleteI would like to order up two of these chairs please!! Just lovely! The color was a nice choice too!
