I had to remove about 40% of the veneer as it was buckling on all 4 side drawers and 2 of the 4 panels. Let's just say that heat guns work well for veneer removal...and they can also cause 2nd to 3rd degree burns. Ahem...not that I'd know.
The top and middle drawer were in near perfect condition and I wanted to save those. I'm not a wood purist, but if there are pieces left that look great, I want to preserve that.
Here is after the veneer removal:
And here it is today:
I changed out the pull on this drawer with something I had on hand.
I had to take the mirror off because it was so fragile, but that makes this piece even better. Hang the mirror on the wall for a vanity, but it can double as a desk!

Happy Memorial Day and thank you to all our Veterans!

ReplyDeleteI love the color choices!
ReplyDeletebeautiful color combination!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! It would be the perfect match to a duck egg and old white desk and matching dresser I recently did for a friend too! :) I love that you kept the middle drawer unpainted.
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS! I love how you combined it all! I just finished a little desk for my daughter a bit like this. If you have a chance to check it out, I would love your visit!

Oh my gosh it really was sad, but has definitely been brought back to life. What a beautiful job.

Stopping over from MMS..What a daunting task! I can't imagine tackling such a project. It really turned out beautifully! Congratulations on breathing new life into this very tired piece!

I'd love to know more about the heat gun that you used! Bubbly veneer is the bane of my existence. I've been using a damp towel to soften the glue and then scraping. How much easier is the heat gun?
