This one, however, wasn't quite as easy. The veneer was really peeling, so I yanked it off, thinking that there was solid wood underneath. Not.so.much...this was underneath. Now I had a table that I really couldn't use. Meanwhile, this table would.not.stop.bleeding through whatever light paint or primer I put on it. Kilz, high adhesion primer...you name it, I tried it, and she kept on bleeding. She was just wasn't supposed to be a white, distressed table in her second life :(
So, I got creative...it had such a cute shape, I thought "why couldn't this be an ottoman?". I called up my handy father-in-law and asked him to cut a board that I could upholster and attach to the table. Then I painted her black...which I ended up REALLY liking!
Here is the finished product!
The paint really isn't as shiny in person...I really need to work on taking good photos of furniture. What are your secrets?

Looks great Allison! I love that you turned it into an ottoman! I forget to take before pictures a lot too. I get so excited to start on a project I just working. Then it dawns on me...Duh, pictures first! I love your new layout too! Very Fancy!
ReplyDeleteThanks Brandi! I have someone working on the layout as we speak!
ReplyDeleteThat came out great! You know what they say...when life gives you lemmons...
ReplyDeletethat's a sweet ottoman. : )
I love it when someone does something unexpected with a piece of furniture! Nice!!!
ReplyDeletethe blog looks great! and the little ottoman/table is adorable! as for the pics...it is the flash that is causing it to look shiny. do you have a spot outside you could snap a pic? or by a big window with lots of light so you don't have to use the flash?
ReplyDeleteHow creative! I love the table as an ottoman!
ReplyDeletecute! love the fact you turned it into an ottoman!

That looks just fabulous!
ReplyDeleteGreat save! Looks fab. I try to take photos of my furniture outside in natural light. I second what Cassie said about not using the flash. If the weather isn't cooperating, I open my front door and just set the piece just inside the open door and that light works great. Hope that helps a little. Black is very hard to get without a shine!
ReplyDeletegreat idea to re-use this piece as an ottoman. I have found I can take better pictures without the flash and in natural light (if possible!)
ReplyDeleteI just painted my bedroom furniture black (usual I paint everything white), and I love the way it turned out, I may use the black paint more often
