New side table

I think I love this one!

Here is the starting point:

Good bones, just not updated. But sooo solid with dove tail drawers! *swoon*
$6.99 @ Goodwill!

I wanted to make it look like a sister to this sideboard. So I sanded it down, painted it a creamy white and distressed it. Then I went over the whole thing with Minwax Dark Walnut stain and wiped off the stain immediately. Love. It. Am I the only one who finds that using stain as a glaze is easier to work with than actual glaze?

I wish I had a spot for this at my house!

  4. Great find and great job! I am working on a dresser that I picked up on side of the road. Should be finished this afternoon. Will have to try the stain, I am using glaze and it can be difficult to work with, but it was on clearance for $3.00/can.

  5. Also a lover of stain. The only problem I find is the dry time with stain is longer than with glaze. Great job on the table.

  10. It is certainly a problem when we make all of this great stuff and have no place to put it. Right now I have too much great trash. I have got to get busy on the treasure part.

  13. Well, crud! I've never tried stain. Probably because I always so much glaze around. But I'll definitely try stain next time.

The table turned out darling! Would love for you to stop by and link up to Passion for Paint this weekend.

  17. Awesome job on all the pieces!! Way to go on the hunting, storing and then painting.... smart, very smart...;)

I have never used a glaze, only and always stains. I make furniture and have found that the stain does a lot for less.

  18. Hi! I just did something similar to my kitchen cabinets, but I'm finding that the minwax stain is still sticky after almost 23 hours. Is there something special I need to do to make it dry? Thanks!
