Here is the before
I thought a white wash or gray wash would be great because the wood was dry and it would've soaked it up. But on the first go around, it turned pink immediately. Solid mahogany that was bleeding badly. I could've used oil based primer to block the bleed, but decided to go with a distressed black instead. I used red oak stain to bring out the details.
And a hidden little drawer!
Love the shape of this one!

How pretty is that??!! If I were in the same GW as you too, I'd be stalking you, in hopes you'd "change your mind" for about 30 seconds and I would be tempted to run and hide some place with it (like a changing room).

ReplyDeleteI adore your library table...$5.99 was a steal!
ReplyDeleteWhat a grrrreat find!! The Goodwill's around here have really increased their prices. That table would have been $39.99-$49.99 here!!! You did an absolutely beautiful job too!
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing job you did. I love the black and the light sanding. $5.99 is an incredible bargain, no wonder that dealer was following you around. Good thing you got there first!!
ReplyDeleteWow!! What a score that table is! You did a beautiful job of refinishing it.
ReplyDeleteCheck out my big score at the thrift store last week. www.lisatakesix.blogspot.com

OM goodness, what a steal! Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteShut. UP! $5.99 for that beauty? I would have done more than chase you down - I think I would have tackled you and fought for it! ;-) What a stunning piece made even more beautiful. Your Goodwill is WAY better than mine!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I would have probably knocked the 'chaser' down and took off!
ReplyDeleteOne word, Wow
ReplyDeleteWow! What a great table. I would have scooped that up too. What a great price! Things are never that cheap at our Goodwill. It would have been at least $75. Really....all good furniture is priced high and even bad furniture.
ReplyDeleteOh...I'd love to see this linked up at my Mod Mix Monday linky party which I have every Monday.
ReplyDeleteMy first time here. I would have followed you out of the store and mugged you for that...lol...jk. I am surprised he did not offer to buy it from you after you purchased it. I would have preferred not to have painted it, but it looks good.
ReplyDeleteI am in LOVE with that table! I cannot believe you got it for 6.00 - you go girl!!!
ReplyDeletegreat table, Allison. too funny about the guy chasing you around the store. my father in law brought over a table similar to yours that is in need of a makeover. I'll keep your table in mind when the time comes to fix it up.
ReplyDeletePS. congrats on your feature over at southern hospitality.
Gorgeous...
ReplyDeleteI once had a lady follow me around who kept talking about a lamp I was planning on purchasing. She kept saying what a good buy it was and how pretty it would look redone (it was a floor lamp with a large wood base) and how she must have missed it on her first go round. It was so funny.
