Drum Table with a Twist

My mom picked up this petite drum table for me at a garage sale down the road from her. I kinda love that I have other people "picking" for me.

It started as this...a lovely little table with a water stain on the top:

I was going to paint it all one color...like Newburg Green, but I thought the wood had potential. So I sanded off the old varnish, stained it with Minwax in Provincial and look at the wood now!

I even left the feet in the original finish. Usually drum tables have brass feet, but not this one.

This is the month of small, unique tables...so stay tuned!

Fabulous Aged Bookshelf

I have never seen a piece like this. Shayne found this on Craigs List and dropped it off at my house. It is heavy as a beast.

Before:

I primed this with Kilz gray primer and then did 7 layers of white wash...I think it was 7...I lost count. But white washing is fun, so I didn't mind. I then used Fiddes wax in stripped pine over the whole thing...working in small sections at a time. Several bloggers have told me that dark wax is more difficult to use and they don't like how it looks splotchy. I used to have that problem too, until Shayne told me a secret. After waxing the entire piece, use extra fine steel wool to blend the wax. It is seriously like magic!!

See how nicely the wax blends and makes the piece look aged?

And one more...without accessories

Enjoy your long weekend!!

Campaign Coffee Table

I cannot get the before picture to upload tonight. Grrrr!

Due to a huge stash of furniture and need to move things more quickly, I finally took the plunge and decided to try chalk paint! Only I made my own using Plaster of Paris. It was really easy and I didn't have to sand OR prime! Giddy!

Anyway, I found this gem at Goodwill a few weeks ago. Solid wood, dovetail drawers and a leather inlay top. I quickly painted the table in three coats...less than an hour between coats because the chalk paint dries so quickly. I sanded it lightly just to make it feel more smooth...and then I waxed it with Fiddes Wax in Jacobean to age it out.

There were only 5 of the 6 original pulls, so I improvised by using these 2 antique knobs on the bottom drawer.
