Elegant Striped Sofa Table and Giveaway Reminder

Shayne brought this to me a few weeks ago and was undecided on how to finish it.

Photobucket

That night, she sent me this picture as inspiration. I gasped at the beauty of the photo! She got it from Pinterest but didn't pin it, so I don't have the source. If you know where this came from, please let me know!

After priming the table with Kilz gray primer, I painted the entire table with DecoArt paint in Silver Morning. Then I got out the Scotch Blue painters tape. I measured 4 wide stripes on the apron of the table and one tapered stripe on the inside of each leg. The legs were a bit frustrating and aren't perfect, but overall, I think I achieved the look Shayne wanted. I finished it by glazing with Jacobean stain.

Follow THIS Blog Friday with a GIVEAWAY: Style Minneapolis

I apologize for the 2 week hiatus from my new series Follow THIS Blog Friday. We were traveling, so I had a semi-legit excuse, right?

I am very excited to introduce you Shayne from the shop Style Minneapolis. I have talked about her numerous times as she owns the shop I paint furniture for. She has been a mentor and is true friend with amazing style.
Photobucket

Most of her goods can be seen on her Facebook page here. She also has a new blog called Classic Luxe where she has gorgeous images and inspiration. But Shayne's true love is making jewelry. Amazing jewelry. She sells her Shayne & Coco jewels at her shop and I stole a few pictures to show you how fabulous she is!

Riding the City Bus....with a bed

My youngest sister lives in Chicago. She has her own apartment and is single....so this is my choice of destination when I need a quick weekend away. The flight is only an hour and taking the train from Midway airport to her place is a breeze.

I arrived Friday afternoon and by Saturday at 10 am, we were on a bus to Andersonville to go to the Brown Elephant...the most fabulous thrift shop in Chicago. While I haven't been to all of Chicago's thrift shops, this HAS to be one of the best. The furniture is amazing.

We've always searched for a headboard for my sister but haven't come up with anything until Saturday. She found this...and I said "no" because I don't love mission style furniture. But she had her way, and soon we were on our way back to her apartment to paint the bed.

But wait...we didn't have a car. This bed wasn't very heavy, but a full bed is awkward at best. I took the side rails and foot board, she had the headboard. Of course I chose to sit on the accordion part of this massive bus (I don't ride buses very often...obviously), so every time the bus turned, the pieces of the bed moved (because I rested them on the floor vertically) and I had a death grip on them. Halfway through the 40 minute bus ride, my right arm felt like falling off. And I was hangry (you know...you're so hungry that you're angry?). Not a good combo. Anyhoo...

This is the after. I absolutely LOVE the color...it's Foxfire by Royal (sold at Ace Hardware). And prior to this, the wall had screw holes all.over.the.place.
