Two Experiments: One of those lamps

We've all seen them. Those lamps...I'm not even sure what they're called..table lamps? I'm not sure when these things became cool, but there must've been a time because they are in thrift stores everywhere.

Now, don't judge me...I bought one. For my sweet mother-in-law who wanted one for a small space next to a new chair. I thought if I found one with some character, we could paint it and make it look decent enough. But as it turns out, the diameter of the table was too big. It sat and sat in my garage...ugly as it was until I could'nt take it anymore. I'd spent enough on it that I didn't want to just re-gift it to GW unless I tried to do something with it. Picture a dark, solid wood lamp with a table attached and brass accents.

I painted it a glossy white

Silver-leafed the details with Rub-n-Buff

Found a thrift store shade that was stained but had great texture...so I spray painted it silver

And here she is all put together

So, what do you think...glam or grandma? You won't offend me either way...I know she looks better than she did for sure!

Hmm I love what you did with it but I just don't like those tables no matter what. Unless they were bejeweled in diamonds :-) You did a beautiful job though!!

I just love it! It is old fashioned but fresh and smart at the same time! The silver was a perfect addition to the white-gave it such a crisp classiness!

It definitely looks MUCH better! It wouldn't work in my home, but I really think it would be great in the right space.

Great job! The silver leafing is a wonderful touch. As for the lampshade, makes me want to kick myself for not picking up a cute, but terribly colored, shade at the thrift store last week. Spray painting them had never crossed my mind. Thank you for that tip!

If it were mine......she would be distressed a little and have a burlap shade for contrast (easy to do with the shade you have) but I do love what you did. If she is gramma then so are all the restore projects we see on blogs.

I like the light and table, but like Shanty Girl, I think the light shade needs to contrast it more. It needs a pop up top.
