Fun with Color

If you've been following me for awhile, you know that a large percentage of the work I do is in white, gray or black. That's what sells and that's what most people want...and I love it. But sometimes I crave doing colored pieces. Bright, fun, etc.

I recently started consigning pieces with Divas & Denim in Rosemount, Minnesota. They want pieces with color...turquoise, yellow, etc. So exciting!

I recently picked up these 2 pieces:

And turned them into this:

And this:

These were quick and simple, but I really like how both turned out. And the turquoise table already sold! Bonus!

Petite Coffee Table

I was recently contacted by a friend of a friend. She co-owns a boutique called Divas & Denim in Rosemount, Minnesota. She had previously had someone providing furniture on consignment, but that person pulled out suddenly and she need some furniture quickly.

I went on a Craigs List and garage sale hunt and came up with this sweet little table (that I forgot to take a "before" picture of). Here it is, painted and waxed.

I'm guessing this one will sell quickly, but time will tell. I hope so, because I've got a garage full of pieces just waiting for paint!

Vintage End Table

A friend of mine recently brought me this table and wanted me to freshen it up...make it more modern.

She brought me this picture for inspiration, but instead of the blue peeking through, she wanted the original wood finish coming through.

I painted 2 sloppy-ish coats of white and then used denatured alcohol on a rag to distress it.

My friend hasn't seen it yet. It may need a glaze to make the details pop...but I'll let her decide!

The Haunted Dresser

Usually when I am out thrifting or sale-ing, I pass by pieces that are already painted. I don't like stripping furniture if it can be avoided and I don't love painting over thick, drippy paint. But the price was right on this one and I learned a lesson.

Sometimes all a piece needs is GOOD sanding and a coat of wax. Less work for me, too! She came to me with thick, shiny, chipped paint. I took out my orbital sander and smoothed out some of the chips. I used Fiddes Furniture Wax in Jacobean on the entire piece and here she is today. I think she's perfect for Halloween!

I know pieces that are this aged aren't for everyone, but for the right person, it's perfect! What about you? Do you prefer pieces that are NOT already painted?
