The Unpainted Dresser + I NEED a Hepplewhite Pull!

We recently got my 3 year old into a big boy bed. By default, we put him into a full size bed....and here's why.

Growing up, I spent a lot of time with my grandparents. My grandfather was larger than life and also large. At 350 lbs, he and my grandma shared a full sized bed their entire life. I remember sleeping over at their house and being put to bed before the sun went down. My grandpa was always laying in this bed with his white t-shirt on, listening to the Minnesota Twins on the AM radio.

This bed belonged grandparents. I refinished it with my dad about 12 years ago...before I fell in love with redoing furniture. If I recall, my dad did about 80% of the work. He had the bed for awhile and we recently got it back just in time to put Dylan into a big boy bed.

Here it is in all of it's glory: Superhero sheets, bed rail and no box spring cover. I'm sure my grandma is rolling over in her grave, but I am thrilled to put it to good use!

So imagine my excitement when I found this at a garage sale last week!!

Guess what I paid!! Seriously...guess...I'll tell you at the end.

The top had major stains on it, so I stripped the top and refinished it in Cherry by Minwax. A perfect match.

Now it sits in Dylan's big boy room...a perfect match to my grandparent's bed!

Here's where you come in. The dresser is missing ONE pull. I'm thinking someone out there has an extra one lying round and wants to either swap pulls with me (I have a collection you can choose from) or I will pay you for one! Pleeeaase?

Photobucket

And want to know what I paid for her?

Thirty bucks.

You can hate me...but not for long, ok?

I think I have seen a catalog called Restoration Hardware, if you can't find a match how about changing out the two on the top drawer to maybe a round knob.

Glad you kept the bed in the family.

How cool that you could use your grandparent's bed for your son. The dresser is fantastic. I hope you find the pull you need. I bet someone out there will have what you need. Good luck!

I am so jealous! What a great bed and dresser! I have several of those pulls, they are in storage, if no one finds one for you by the time we move to our house you can have one!

Lovely story about your grandparents!

You scored. And can I just say that I am glad you did not paint it? I know right now we're all going a little crazy with the painted furniture craze, but I think you've got to mix in some real wood finishes to get an interesting look.

I have a similar bed, but not nearly as well made and it didn't come with such an interesting or nostalgic story.

Found you at Southern Hospitality today.

Minnesota Twins on AM. That's funny.

You might find something that will complement your drawer pulls at vandykes.com. Here's a link to something very similar that they have: http://www.vandykes.com/stamped-brass-oval-bail-pull/p/209409/

What an amazing dresser! If you can't find the pulls you need - the top 2 drawers could be different than the bottom ones? Just a thought

So cool! My sisters and I all have antique / vintage furniture in our homes, I love the uniqueness it adds to each home. I agree, you don't need to paint that. What is going to happen when the pendulum swings the other way and everyone wants original wood again? There are a lot of people who will be scraping a lot of wood.....

That's a great story!

Here's the exact one on ebay. If nobody has one to spare, maybe this would be an option?

What a great score! Bet you'll have to invest another $30.00 between pull and shipping.....but it will be worth it. A lovely piece that your son will certainly be passing onto his son someday!
