Brazillian Dresser

I haven't finished anything that I'm extra excited about recently, but this dresser is a game changer!

My friend Cris, who is from Brazil, emailed me a few weeks ago saying she needed to get rid of a dresser because she was moving. But she explained that it was "very heavy". Being that I've been schlepping furniture around for 2+ years, I figured "no problem". Uh huh. With the drawers in, Cris and I couldn't even budge it. I called my super-husband and he came by to help us get it in my car.

This dresser is the best made piece I've ever worked on. Amazing wood and plank bottom drawers that are pristine!

Here is the before:

Here she is today. I wanted to preserve the orignal wood where possible. Both of the sides had started splitting vertically, but had been reinforced inside to prevent it falling apart...so no matter how hard I cranked on the vice, that wood was not going back together. So,I filled the cracks with wood filler. Some paint and pulls from Anthropologie completed this beauty!

Aged in all the right places!

Swooning over the beauty inside the drawers!

I am seriously giddy over this one. It puts a smile on my face!

If she bought that dresser in Brazil they have access to incredible hard woods we don't have. They are made to last forever with the woods that are used, example the inside of the drawers.
If you've ever watched House Hunters Intl. on HGTV when they tour the homes built in those areas the wood used that they show is exquisite. Such gorgeous use of hard woods. That's a norm for the countries like Brazil.
So glad for you to have an opportunity to secure a dresser using the hard exotic woods. It'll spoil you for furniture made in US. Your friend might not even realize the quality of the woods used to make the dresser she gave you. Enjoy. Love how you kept the integrity of the woods look, great job.

What a beautiful piece. That type of construction and wood is my favorite. Arhaus, a wonderful furniture store, stocks pieces similar to this sometimes and the wood is always amazing. Great choices on the paint color!

This is one great piece of furniture. It already had character, but I like how you revamped it. I'm stopping over from the Homemaker on the Dime Hop. Feel free to drop by my blog: www.artisticexpressionsbyelisabeth.blogspot.com

Beautiful wood on that piece. You managed to paint it so the wood is highlighted. Great job!

This piece is so pretty- love that you kept some of the wood. I am a furniture painter too :) I always keep a wood top when I can!
