Miss Mustard Seed's CC Challenge and a few blanks

Miss Mustard Seed and Funky Junk Interiors are hosting a "Copy Me Challenge". I have been swooning over Miss Mustard seed and her talents for a long time now. In fact, last summer, I did an oar for my sons' room after seeing it on her site here.

Here are a few pictures of my finished oar. I used our boat registration number on the oar. The boys' room has a sort of nautical theme, so it looks fun in there. You can see I have pictures around the oar...it's not a completed wall...I need some more things to hang to break it up a bit.

Now onto the blanks I have...I need some ideas from Blogland. I have this old school chair (wood seat and back, metal legs). The chair was given to me by the preschool...they know I love to fix up old things and they asked me to do something with it to put it in an auction in April (benefitting the school).
I'm thinking of doing something like this, but I'm not sure. I'm open to any and all ideas!

Then there is this toybox and/or bench
It's super sturdy, but not so easy on the eyes. Do you see that dark, rectangular stain on the front? I think this piece has many possibilities, but my mind is blank right now.

Whew..this got long. If you're still with me, thank you! Don't forget to enter the giveaway I'm having here

Thank you so much for the comment! It's one of my first few we've gotten so it's super exciting!

As for the chair- I love the direction you're thinking about taking it in. The dark stain would play really well with the metal legs, giving it that "industrial chic" look that's so popular right now.

And for the chest, you might not love this idea, but this picture has been in my inspiration files for a long time and I love the finish on the trunk in this picture.

Hopefully you can see it, it might be able to help you spark a few ideas!

Your oar is super cute. I like the preschool chair. Would a distressed white with a stencil look too sophisticated for a little one? How about pink, with a no. on it like your inspiration ones. I'd put little legs are wheels on your trunk and take it from there - good luck!
